PDP (Pre-During-Post)

Hi everyone! Welcome back to a new entry馃檵

This week we learned the PDP method, which is used for receptive skills only.

Tha main element in this type of classes is the passage that the students will be using, whether it is an audio or a text that they have to read.

A warm up and a wrap up are always necessary, then we have the three stages: Pre, During and Post.

For the Pre, the teacher can come up with an activity to introduce the topic like the example teacher Orlando gave us related to the Holistic Medicine passage, the passage mentioned aromatherapy so an activity like guessing different scents could be okay. The two important points here are: Activate the schemata, which means that all the students have to be on the same page and also, teach key vocabulary. Anything that can be useful for the student and can help them practice without even noticing it. This is the time for the teacher to give the best explanation of the topic.

For the During, students can work on their own, then in pairs and then they can share with the whole class any questions the teacher might ask them, it is important that they learn to work on their own first and then socialize their answers, and another important thing is that, if the students are going to be answering some questions related to a text for example, the teacher has to first show the questions and then have the students read the text, that is the only way, if they read the text first and then they have to answer the questions, they are going to read the text again anyways.

For the Post, everything that happens in this stage is extra, since the objective of the lesson will be fulfiled in the During, in the Post, students can produce orally or in a written way what they have learned and the wrap up has to be related to what they just learned.

And that is how a reading or listening comprehension lesson can be carried out.

In last Thursday's class, teacher Orlando created a whole new lesson plan for an imaginary class and he did it so naturally and in a very short time, he had a lot of ideas for the activities and I had a hard time thinking of a few. He was also creating class material at the same time and he did it from zero and came up with interesting questions related to the Holistic Medicine passage and I really liked the activities related to the aromatherapy and the gemstones.

That is it for today's entry, thank you so much for reading and stay tuned for the next one, bye-bye!馃憢
